The Balboa Park of San Diego is known for being the "melting pot" of cultures. Surrounding a grass field in the park are houses specially decorated to represent a particular culture.
"Melting pot" became a popular term for describing the homogenization of a heterogeneous society after the premier of a play of the same name by Israel Zangwill in 1908 during the Progressive Era.
This year, a special celebration is held to celebrate the Chinese New Year. Performers and organizations all went on stage to present traditional Chinese performances.
A large crowd of audience came to witness what the Chinese culture has to offer.
Some were dressed in actual Chinese attires, while others dressed up in costumes resembling their Chinese counterparts.
Restaurants and families set up booths along the path leading up to the stage. There are families selling Boba. While others served food like BBQ plates and dim sum.
However, one particular booth caught my eye.
Every few steps you take, you can find several people wearing those "rice hats" the booth was selling.
